Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are set to jointly inaugurate two significant railway projects and a major power plant on November 1, marking a milestone in regional connectivity and energy generation.
The joint virtual inauguration will encompass the 15.064 km Agartala-Akhaura rail link project, the 1320 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power project in Rampal, Bangladesh’s Khulna division, and the 86.87 km Khulna-Mongla port rail line project.
The Agartala-Akhaura railway project, funded by India and managed by the Northeast Frontier Railway, will significantly reduce travel time between India and Bangladesh. This broad-gauge station will serve both passengers and freight, benefiting the northeastern states, particularly Tripura, Assam, and Mizoram.
The Maitree Super Thermal Power project, with a generation capacity of 1320 MW, is a testament to the strong cooperation between the two countries, further enhancing the strategic partnership in the energy sector. This project, undertaken by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), is a collaborative effort between India’s National Thermal Power Company Limited (NTPC) and the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB). It stands as a symbol of friendship and shared progress between the two nations.
