Actor Piyush Mishra criticised veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah over his silence on the JPSC protests in Ranchi. Joining protesting students at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, Mishra questioned Shah’s earlier “dog with a bone” remark while students continued demanding action over alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC examination.
Actor Piyush Mishra has taken a pointed dig at veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah over his alleged silence on the ongoing JPSC-JSSC protests in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Mishra, known for his performances in films such as the Gangs of Wasseypur franchise, Tamasha and Gulaal, joined protesting students at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium and spoke about their concerns and hardships.
Addressing the gathering, Mishra referred to remarks previously made by Shah during the CJP protests at Jantar Mantar. He questioned why other members of the film industry had not spoken publicly about students involved in the ongoing protests.
“With all due respect, I would like to ask you, where are the other dogs who can’t speak?” Mishra said, referring to Shah’s earlier comments.
Shah had previously spoken to The Wire about the silence of sections of the film industry during protests. He used the analogy of a dog with a bone in its mouth to explain why some people may choose not to speak out. According to Shah, people would speak when their conscience prompted them to do so, or when circumstances forced them to act.
Mishra’s remarks came as the JPSC-JSSC protest in Ranchi entered its third week. Students have continued their agitation over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The protesters gathered at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium are demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination and an independent investigation into the allegations.
The protesting aspirants have sought either a Central Bureau of Investigation probe or an inquiry by a panel of retired High Court judges. Several students have also reportedly undertaken hunger strikes as part of the continuing agitation.
The dispute has led to multiple rounds of discussions between representatives of the protesting students and the Jharkhand government. However, the talks have so far failed to bring an end to the deadlock.
The government has maintained that the concerns raised by the aspirants will be examined. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has also emphasised the importance of dialogue and transparency while the protests continue.
The controversy has further intensified following the resignation of three members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission amid a CID investigation into alleged irregularities. The development has added to demands from protesting aspirants for greater accountability and an independent examination of the recruitment process.
Mishra’s presence at the protest has drawn attention to the issue beyond the student community, particularly because of his criticism of Shah’s earlier remarks. His comments have also brought the question of public figures speaking on student protests back into the spotlight.

For the protesting aspirants, however, the central issue remains their demand for action over the alleged irregularities surrounding the 14th JPSC examination. With the agitation continuing into its third week and no final resolution emerging from discussions with the government, the students remain determined to press their demands.
The exchange between Mishra and Shah has consequently added a fresh dimension to the ongoing JPSC controversy, even as the students continue their protest in Ranchi seeking transparency, accountability and an independent probe.
