Preity Zinta recalls her memorable experience of sharing the screen with Amitabh Bachchan in Armaan, revealing how she requested a scene with the veteran actor and struggled to remain still while portraying a coma patient. She shared the amusing story during the Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 premiere.
Actress Preity Zinta recently revisited a memorable chapter from her career, recalling how determined she was to share the screen with legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan in the 2003 film Armaan. The actress shared the amusing behind-the-scenes story while appearing on the premiere episode of the upcoming 18th season of the popular reality game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Preity, who has often spoken warmly about the Bachchan family, revealed that working with Amitabh Bachchan was something she desperately wanted early in her career. Her determination became so strong that she made a special request before signing Armaan, directed by Honey Irani.
According to Preity, she told the filmmaker that she would take up the project only if she got an opportunity to share at least one scene with Amitabh Bachchan. Her wish was eventually fulfilled, although the circumstances of their scene turned out to be quite different from what she may have imagined.
Recalling the incident, Preity said she told Honey Irani that she would do the film if she had a scene with Amitabh Bachchan. The director responded humorously that if Preity was determined to work with him, she would have to “die in the scene.”
Preity’s character in Armaan was shown in a coma, creating the opportunity for her to be present in a scene with Amitabh Bachchan. However, portraying an unconscious character while sharing the frame with one of India’s biggest stars proved to be an unexpectedly difficult experience for the actress.
The Veer-Zaara star recalled that she was extremely nervous when Amitabh Bachchan entered the room for the scene. Despite having to remain completely still as a patient in a coma, Preity found herself trembling because of the excitement and pressure of acting alongside the veteran.
She humorously remembered repeatedly being reminded by members of the team that she was moving and that her movements were affecting the scene. Preity admitted that she felt silly because Amitabh Bachchan was right there in front of her, making it even harder for her to remain completely motionless.
The story offered a light-hearted glimpse into the admiration Preity had for Amitabh Bachchan and the lengths she was willing to go to share the screen with him. What began as a determined request ultimately resulted in an unusual but unforgettable acting experience.
Armaan, released in 2003, featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Anil Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor. The film explored relationships, family responsibilities and emotional struggles, with its lead actors delivering performances that remain memorable for audiences.
Preity’s recollection also highlighted the excitement and nervousness that can accompany actors when they get an opportunity to work with performers they have admired for years. Her story about struggling to “act dead” while Amitabh Bachchan was present became one of the entertaining moments of her appearance.
