Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says Tehran will continue pursuing peace and dialogue with the United States if Washington builds trust, fulfils commitments under the recent MoU, and avoids force. He stressed reciprocal obligations, national unity, Iran’s rights, and Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s decisions as the basis for future action.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said Iran will continue pursuing the path of peace and dialogue with the United States under a recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), provided Washington helps create an atmosphere of trust and fulfils its commitments.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Pezeshkian said Tehran was determined to use the provisions of the MoU as the foundation for continued negotiations with Washington. However, he stressed that progress would depend on the United States taking steps to overcome what Iran considers an atmosphere of distrust.
Pezeshkian described the current period as an important opportunity for reaching an agreement, pointing to what he called solidarity, strength and unity within Iran. He said Tehran was prepared to continue on the path of peace based on the provisions agreed upon in the memorandum.
“We are determined to use the MoU as the basis provided that the United States lets go of the atmosphere of distrust it has created, and an atmosphere of trust is formed,” Pezeshkian said.
The Iranian president also emphasised the principle of reciprocity in negotiations with Washington. According to him, Iran’s commitments would correspond to the extent to which the United States fulfils its own obligations under the agreement.
Pezeshkian made clear that Tehran would not accept pressure or coercion during the negotiation process. He warned that if the other side attempted to use force, Iran would not acquiesce. He added that Iran’s future actions would ultimately be guided by decisions taken by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The president had earlier reaffirmed Iran’s willingness to pursue dialogue to safeguard the country’s rights while insisting that Tehran would not be forced into surrender. His remarks came as questions continued over the future of negotiations between Iran and the United States amid heightened regional tensions.
In an interview published on the website of his office on Friday, Pezeshkian defended the Iranian government’s decision to enter negotiations with Washington and sign the MoU aimed at ending the war. He said Iran remained committed to its obligations as long as the United States honoured its own commitments.
“Wherever they fail to fulfil their commitment, we have no obligation to continue,” Pezeshkian said, underlining Tehran’s position that both sides must respect the terms of the understanding.
The Iranian president has also recently sought to dismiss reports of internal political divisions surrounding the agreement. Earlier this week, Pezeshkian denied speculation that he was stepping down from office and said he would continue his work resolutely. The comments came amid reports of disagreements within Iran’s leadership over the MoU and its implications.
Iran and the United States signed the MoU in June on ending the war on all fronts, including Lebanon. Under the arrangement, the two sides were scheduled to hold negotiations during a 60-day period with the objective of reaching a final agreement.

However, renewed escalation across the region has raised uncertainty over the future of those negotiations. Despite the challenges, Pezeshkian’s latest remarks indicate that Tehran remains open to diplomacy if Washington takes steps to rebuild trust and honours its commitments.
The Iranian president’s position highlights the importance Tehran places on reciprocal commitments, national unity and diplomatic engagement while maintaining that Iran will defend its rights and reject any attempt to impose an agreement through force.
