In a significant development Patal Kanya Jamatia, president of Tripura People’s Front, joined BJP in a big rally held in front Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan on Sunday. She was welcomed in the party among other Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik and party president Dr Manik Saha.

After joining the BJP Patal Kanya, who had been hitherto demanding Tipraland for the indigenous people , announced that development of the Indigenous people would come only when there would be greater unity with a close bonding between the nontribal and tribal people of the state. And all round development of the Tripura people – the indigenous as well as the non-tribal- could be delivered only by the BJP led by Narendra Modi in the Centre and Biplab Kumar Deb in the state .

“Not Tipraland or greater Tipraland, the indigenous people need Greater Unity for development, peace and security and BJP, the disciplined and development party, is the platform,” Jamatia said, adding that she was very happy to join the party known for its development activities.

While appealing to the Tiprasa people to come forward and strengthen BJP’s hand for development in true sense, Jamatia said, “Biplab Kumar Deb is the only Chief Minister of Tripura who honestly works for the development of indigenous people.”

Jamatia said she would work with devotion for the party while the Tripura People’s Front (TPF) would continue to perform social activities.

She alleged that around 15000 people were about to join BJP in the rally, but Tipra Motha workers stopped the TPF workers on the way to the joining rally. She added that no one would be able to stop the indigenous people for development now onwards because the Prime Minister Narendra Modi always stands by the Janajati people.

While addressing the party rally, Deb said the BJP-IPFT government is already working for Janajati development while the joining of Patal Kanya and other TPF activists to BJP would definitely help serve the indigenous people better.

He said the state would witness another round of Modi wave (leher) in the 2023 polls.

The Chief Minister said the previous governments only talked about women empowerment but the BJP-IPFT government is the first to take initiative for the welfare of the women. In this context, he cited some recent decisions including 33 percent women reservation in government jobs.

Later in a Facebook post, Deb wrote, “….I agree with Patal Kanya Ji’s statement that Greater Unity is most important to build a Shreshth Tripura and I believe joining of TPF with BJP Tripura is a big step in that direction.”

The Deputy Chief Minister said, “we want empowerment of ADC, Janajati people. As Patal Kanya Jamatia joined us, we will work together for the welfare of Tiprasa people.”
He said, a World Bank-funded project of Rs. 1300 crore has already been sanctioned for ADC development. “Economic development comes first but the CPM and Congress kept the Janajati people backward”, he said.
“The joining of Patal Kanya is an instance of Thansa. We need thansa but this should be for an all-round growth,” Dev Verma pointed out.
