Kai Havertz equalised in the 52nd minute for Germany.
In another match, Morocco defeated the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties after a dramatic 1-1 draw across 120 minutes in Round of 32 clash today. Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Neil El Aynaoui tested Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, while Micky van de Ven forced a world-class save from Moroccan keeper Yassine Bounou. Cody Gakpo scored a brilliant opening goal for the Netherlands after receiving a quick pass from Crysencio Summerville. After a chaotic penalty shootout featuring misses from Quinten Timber and Achraf Hakimi, Ismael Saibari scored the decisive spot-kick to send Morocco through.
Earlier, Brazil has entered the Round of 16 after 2-1 victory over Japan in Houston, US. Gabriel Martinelli scored the winning goal late in injury time to give five-time champion Brazil a new achievement in Round of 32 clash last night. Martinelli, who had come on as a second-half substitute, scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time as the match appeared to be headed to extra time. Brazil will next face either the Ivory Coast or Norway on Sunday in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in the Round of 16.
