Ratanlal Nath and three others were acquitted by a court from the charges of defamation filed by former Left Front Finance Minister Badal Chowdhury in 2005. The defamation was filed by Chowdhury against then opposition Leader Ratan Lal Nath as he alleged irregularities in an Online Lottery project.The online lottery was introduced by the then Left Front government .
Nath, as an Opposition leader then in a press conference and demanded a CBI probe into the irregularities.
Badal Chowdhury, the then Finance minister, had filed a defamation case against Nath and three others.
“The court on Wednesday announced the verdict and said that the case is not maintainable. All four persons have been acquitted from the charges of defamation,” Nath told the media.
