Of late there is an ominous development that comes into fore with the recovery o factory made firearms with drugs.
While narcotics smuggling all over the world is closely related to illegal firearms smuggling use, in Tripura the trend is relatively new. Within two weeks in two separate incidents Tripura police found sophisticated pistols with huge consignment of drugs that were being trafficked into the state.
Police on Sunday night arrested two persons Ratan Deb (39) and his nephew Anup Deb (26) from Rangutia tilla Lefunga Police Station in West District with huge consignment of contrabands and to their utter surprise they also found a pistol.
During the raid police seized 400 bottles of Phensidyl, 5000 Yaba Tablets, four mobile sets, many bottles of foreign liquors, Rs 2 lakh and one 9mm factory made pistol.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Piyamadhuri Majumder said recently SP West District had formed a special district task force to combat the drugs smuggling and usage. It was the task force that acting on an actionable information conducted the raid in at Rangutia village and achieved the success.
They were being interrogated by the police and other agencies at present.
