Playground is the ultimate medium to keep the youth away from the reach of addiction. Building a drug-free Tripura will be easier if the youth can be more involved in sports. Various plans have been taken to build stadiums and improve sports infrastructure in every district, enunciated Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb after inaugurating T-20 SPL Tennis Cricket Tournament organized by Sonamura Premiere League Committee at Sonamura Sporting Association ground. The Chief Minister flew a white dove as a symbol of peace. He then met with the players of both teams.
The Chief Minister in the programme said, the government is committed to preventing the use of illicit drugs and HIV infection. The state government is working with an uncompromising attitude against drugs. There is no place for drug trafficking and usage of illicit drugs in Tripura. The matter will not be encouraged in any way. On one hand, the future of the youth gets ruined due to drug addiction, on the other hand HIV is transmitted through various ways of taking drugs. He said, success can be observed every day as a result of the determination of the state government against drugs. The government is working on a priority basis to improve and expand sports infrastructure across the state. Several plans have been taken for this including football stadiums in each district. Women must play a leading role in building a drug-free Tripura, he added.
The Chief Minister further said, development is being reflected everywhere from the city to the marginal areas of the state. Besides the highway, each village is being connected to other roads including paver block roads. Once neglected Northeast, has found a new direction of development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s sincerity. The present state government is working hard to curb the drug trade in the state that grew in the past. President of Tripura Cricket Association Dr. Manik Saha said, players from Sonamura have set an example of success in various fields. Talented players from different parts of the state have also made their place in the national arena. The International Cricket Stadium which is under construction is going to play a significant role in the development of sports in the state. Other dignitaries present in the programme were MLA Subhash Chandra Das, MDC Padma Lochan Tripura, Chairperson of Melaghar Municipal Council Anamika Ghosh, Chairperson of Sonamura Nagar Panchayat Sharada Chakraborty and Sepahijala DM Vishwasree B.
