In Agartala there is a visible rise of the CNG run vehicles which helped keep the environment of the cities and towns largely pollution free, apart from reducing the petrol consumption. Now, there are steps to introduce electric autorickshaws in the state. The idea is simple : It is not only cost effective but also easy to get the engine charged, especially in rural and semi urban areas, and no use of petro-fuel which in other words again a step forward for further pollution free environ. They are also silent . So a one more positive side – enhanced noise free roads.

While there are already a good number of battery charged autorickshaws are plying on the road so of the capital city, 150 more electric rickshaws from Karnataka will arrive here soon..

The the Union Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli said , 150 electric rickshaws from Karnataka to Jirania

“Glad to know South Western Railway loaded its first consignment of 150 electric rickshaws from Bidadi, Karnataka to Jirania, Tripura,” he wrote.

Officials of the transport department are hopeful that once these electric autorickshaws are introduced in large scale the existing auto rickshaws which are mostly run by CNG will be replaced and further help save fuel.

“The rickshaws are eco-friendly, cost effective and are an alternative to the polluting environment and can provide a silent transport system in both urban and rural areas of the state,” the official added.
