The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended Hannan Miah, a wanted human trafficking suspect, from the Sepahijala district of Tripura. This arrest closely follows the capture of another trafficker, Jalil Miah, earlier in the week by the NIA.
Hannan Miah, aged 41, is accused of orchestrating the trafficking of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas through the border regions. He was detained in the Matinagar area, notorious for being a hub of illicit activities. Officials described Hannan as an “infamous human trafficker” who had been on the run-in connection with a case pursued by the NIA.
On May 19, the Tripura Police had previously arrested another suspect on the NIA’s wanted list. The NIA had declared a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to Hannan Miah’s arrest, along with nine other suspects.
Investigations have revealed that Jalil Miah, arrested earlier this week, was a primary conspirator in the human trafficking network and closely associated with Jiban Rudra Pal, another key figure in the racket. Jalil had evaded capture during an initial operation on November 8 last year, which resulted in the arrest of 29 suspects. Electronic devices and incriminating documents seized from his residence indicated his involvement.
Pan-India searches conducted by the NIA in November last year uncovered substantial incriminating data, including digital devices and foreign currency, such as Bangladeshi Taka and US Dollars, along with Aadhaar and PAN cards. A subsequent operation on December 29 led to the arrest of four more suspects, further exposing the extensive human trafficking network.
