Strengthening momentum toward a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA), New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, Todd McClay, arrived in Mumbai today for a series of high-level bilateral engagements with Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. McClay’s visit comes shortly after Minister Goyal’s successful trip to New Zealand, where the fourth round of India-New Zealand FTA negotiations concluded on a positive note.
Both sides expressed renewed optimism about advancing talks aimed at boosting trade, investment, and economic cooperation. In addition to official discussions, Mr. McClay is participating in multiple cultural and business events that highlight the broadening scope of bilateral ties. Mr. McClay was the chief guest at the inauguration of a cricket tournament in Mumbai event symbolic of the shared passion for the sport between India and New Zealand.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, this reflects the strong ties between India and New Zealand. We are working to create a framework in investment, tourism, and sports. In his address, Minister Todd McClay reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to the FTA talks, stating that New Zealand is working with India to frame a good FTA agreement that will benefit the people of both countries. The ongoing dialogue between the two nations is expected to set the stage for expanded market access, smoother trade facilitation, and stronger economic integration.
