New Integrated Bamboo Park to be Established in Kailashahar’s Chandipur Block

Must Read

A new Integrated Bamboo Park is set to be established at the Chhantail Model Orchard in Kailashahar’s Chandipur Block under the Tripura Bamboo Mission’s Bamboo Value Chain Development initiative. The proposed park will require over 40 acres of land, with an estimated project cost of ₹162.92 crore. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already been prepared and submitted to the central government for approval. Once sanctioned, work on the project will commence.

Tripura was home to India’s first Bamboo Park, established in 2007 at R.K. Nagar in West Tripura. This park houses several small and medium-scale bamboo-based industries producing bamboo wood, flooring tiles, incense sticks, bamboo waste briquettes, bamboo powder, and other bamboo products. The park was set up with financial assistance from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and is currently managed by the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation. Inspired by its success, similar parks have been developed in other states.

According to Tripura Bamboo Mission, the proposed Integrated Bamboo Park in Chamanu will feature various bamboo-based production units. The project includes making the land usable, constructing internal roads, setting up electricity infrastructure, building sheds, and installing necessary machinery. A unit will also be established to utilize bamboo waste as raw material, ensuring maximum resource efficiency. Additionally, plans include industries for producing activated charcoal from bamboo, biodegradable tableware by blending bamboo waste with plastic, and extracting fibers from bamboo for textile production.

To ensure a steady supply of bamboo for this project, 26 Bamboo Primary Processing cum Aggregation Centers will be developed across bamboo-rich regions in North Tripura, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, and West Tripura districts. The Bamboo Park at Chhantail will be strategically located near National Highway 208, approximately 20 kilometers from Kumarghat Railway Station, facilitating easy transportation of produced goods.

Once implemented, the project is expected to create significant employment opportunities and boost the local economy, further strengthening Tripura’s position as a hub for bamboo-based industries.
