A week long Combined Annual Training Camp for NCC Cadets of 13 Tripura Bn NCC Unit which commenced at Agartala on November 8 culminated today with a gala programme. A total of 395 Senior Division and Senior Wing Cadets from various institutions of the state participated in this camp. The Camp was conducted by 13 Tripura Bn NCC Agartala headed by Col MA Raj Mannar as camp Commandant under the aegis of NCC Directorate, NER, Shillong and NCC Group HQ Silchar with the assistance of Education Department of the state government. It was the first camp to be organised post COVID-19 pandemic.

Over a period of eight days the cadets were put through a gruelling schedule of activities to include PT, Drill, Weapon Training, and Firing, Field Craft and Battle Craft and various other facets for all round development. Special Lectures and demonstrations were organised by NDRF, Fire Dept, Traffic Police, Army Officers, Brahma Kumaris to give a brief overview to the cadets of each of the departments and institutions.

Various competitions were organised to identify potential talents and skill sets amongst the cadets. The culmination point of the camp was the cultural show put upby the cadets which was witness by various dignitaries – Dornacharya Awardee Bishweshwar Nandi, Officers of the Education and Sports Dept, Principals of BBM College Dr. Ratan Deb and Senior officers from the Indian Army.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath was the Chief Guest at the Camp Closing Ceremony who gave away prizes to the participating Cadets. He complimented the NCC training staff for imparting excellent training to the Cadets. While quoting examples of eminent personalities who have been ex NCC cadets, he exhorted the Cadets to be physically fit, mentally robust and imbibe the virtues of NCC training in letter and spirit. He emphasised upon the need to work selflessly and contribute individually as well collectively towards Nation building, keeping the Motto of NCC always as the guiding factor.

The minister also brought out the various initiatives being undertaken by the State government  to enhance and promote NCC in the state. He mentioned that land is being identified for raising a NCC Group HQ and a NCC Academy in Tripura which will help the NCC units in a big way. The minister brought out that suitable alternate arrangements for office and accommodation for the NCC units is also being identified. He also informed the gathering of the Chief Minister Commendation awards which includes a medallion and cash of Rs 5000 for best ANOs and cadets instituted by the State. The minister mentioned that the state govt is making efforts to identify options for giving reservations to NCC certificate holders for jobs and higher education
