Tripura CM Manik Saha urged the youth to lead a mass movement against drug abuse during the Namo Yuva Run, part of Seva Pakhwada. He highlighted strict anti-narcotics measures and emphasized collective responsibility to build a drug-free Tripura.
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday made a clarion call to the youth of the state to spearhead a mass movement against drug abuse. Participating in the Namo Yuva Run marathon, he emphasized that the state government has taken several measures to build a Nasha Mukt Tripura (drug-free Tripura).

The event, organized by the Tripura Pradesh Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was part of the ongoing Seva Pakhwada social service campaign to mark the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking at the gathering, the Chief Minister stressed that eradicating drug addiction was not just a government responsibility but also a collective mission requiring youth participation.
Youth as the Driving Force
“Nearly 65 percent of India’s population are youths. This is a massive resource for the nation. If we can channel their energy and enthusiasm in the right direction, nothing can stop our progress and development. This is exactly what our Prime Minister wants us to realize,” Dr. Saha said.

Highlighting Prime Minister Modi’s vision, he noted that the Prime Minister consistently seeks suggestions from citizens on the path of development and places high importance on youth-driven initiatives. According to him, the Namo Yuva Run aimed to inspire awareness among young people about the dangers of drugs and motivate them to embrace discipline, fitness, and social responsibility.
Seva Pakhwada Campaign
The Seva Pakhwada, running from September 17 to October 2, includes a series of programs and activities across the state. The Chief Minister said these initiatives not only honor Prime Minister Modi’s birthday but also reflect the government’s vision to foster a healthier, stronger, and more responsible society.
Dr. Saha explained, “We have taken multiple steps to eliminate drug abuse from Tripura. Drugs not only harm individuals but also destroy families and society at large. It is a threat that can ruin generations. That is why I urge our youth to rise and lead a mass movement to combat this menace.”
Strict Action Against Narcotics
Referring to past failures, Dr. Saha stated that earlier governments had neglected the seriousness of the drug problem. However, since 2018, the state government has empowered police and security agencies to intensify operations against smugglers and drug traffickers. As a result, large quantities of narcotics have been seized, and numerous arrests have been made in recent years.
“After 2018, there has been a sharp increase in the intensity of anti-drug actions. We will not tolerate such activities, and law enforcement agencies are working hard to protect our youth. But without a social movement, without awareness, we cannot fully succeed. That is why I urge the youth to take this campaign to every village and every family,” he said.
Leaders Join the Call
The event was attended by several prominent leaders, including BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, Yuva Morcha President and MLA Sushanta Deb, MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma (General Secretary of Yuva Morcha), BJP General Secretary Bhagaban Das, and Sports Council Secretary Sukanta Ghosh.
Rajib Bhattacharjee also echoed the Chief Minister’s appeal. “As part of the Seva Pakhwada that started on September 17, today’s Namo Yuva Yatra has been organized by the Yuva Morcha with the firm commitment to protect our youth from the clutches of addiction. This program is not just a campaign but a vow to safeguard the future generation,” he said.
A Pledge for a Drug-Free Future
The marathon and associated activities symbolize the collective determination of the youth and leadership in Tripura to combat the rising threat of drug addiction. Both the Chief Minister and party leaders underscored that discipline, awareness, and unity are essential to build a healthier and drug-free state.

By aligning with Prime Minister Modi’s vision, Tripura aims to become a role model in the fight against narcotics. Dr. Saha concluded his address by urging young citizens to treat this mission as a responsibility, not merely a campaign. “The future of our state and nation lies in your hands. Together, let us pledge to make Tripura a Nasha Mukt state,” he said.
