Many may blame it on the blazing sun, and many more may hold BJP’s lack of foresightedness relating to state’s tribal politics responsible, but fact remains that party’s national president JP Nadda’s rally seriously failed to attract expected audience in TTAADC headquarters Khumulwng on Monday. Of course, TIPRA Motha’s threat was also there as there werev reports of intimidation and also attacks by Motha activists on the BJP workers, but it is also then true that ruling party miserably failed to counter the threat and instil a sense of security among the party workers and supporters so that they could attend the rally of their president.

The result was visible.

What is more frustrating is that the poor show came only a month before the ensuing VC polls. The indication of the forthcoming VC results, and in extension the next assembly elections, is there for all to see.

Nadda while addressing the gathering touched upon the state as well as central governments’ contributions and initiatives for the development of the indigenous people of the state and at national as well with befitting reference to Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur and others.

Nadda pointed out that the development of the indigenous people began practically with former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee whose time the Tribal Welfare Ministry in the Union government was incepted.

While Vajpayee initiated the development of the indigenous people, Nadda pointed out it was during the time of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the highest numbers of Janajati representatives could get berth on in central government.

“There are now eight tribal ministers in the centre and five in the state” the BJP president said.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha also dwelt upon the state government’s initiatives for tribal welfare in the state and  claimed the ‘double-engine governments’ were working together with a clear focus on the overall development of the TTAADC areas.

Among others Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and MP Rebati Tripura along with others were present in the rally.

Former Chief Minister Biplab Deb also spoke on the state government’s several steps for the development of the tribal people of the state.

Minister Manoj Kanti Deb , Santana Chakma, Sushanta Chowdhury Ramprasad Paul, Bhagaban Das, MLA Atul Debbarma, Pramod Reang, Parimal Debbarma, Shambhulal Chakma, Birendra Kishore BJP state prabhari Vinod Sonkar and others attended the rally.
