Union Minister of State Railways, Coal and Mining Raosaheb Dadarao Danve on Friday said that the government has plans to transform Tripura’s sabroom into a multi-modal transport hub. Land port authority of India, Indian Railways shall work in close collaboration with each other for the proposed project.
Explaining the concept, the minister said, “the concept of multimodal transport hub signifies Sabroom will be linked through multiple means of transport such as railway, waterway and existing road transport”.
He said, “I have paid an inspection visit to the Agartala-Sabroom railway route (South district). It shares the international border with Bangladesh. The progress in infrastructure building is satisfactory and its geographical nearness with Chittagong port makes it an added advantage in good transport. We will set up a multi-modal transport hub in the coming days in consultation with Bangladesh.”
According to the minister, the good delivery in Tripura will be 22 hours faster than existing Kolkata-Agartala route. “It takes around 38 hours which will reduce to 16 hours”, said the minister.
The minister further informed the media persons that survey works would be soon initiated to convert the existing single line connectivity between Agartala and Lumding into a double line route.
“I have spoken to the Chief Minister. He is very eager for the project. He has also spoken for a Agartala-Mumbai train. The matter is under consideration”, said the minister.
