Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reviews progress of Tripura’s upcoming Water Park at Jirania and other major tourism development projects, stressing timely completion, quality standards, sustainable growth, and improved infrastructure to boost tourism and public amenities across the state.

Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a comprehensive high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat on Monday to assess the ongoing progress of the under-construction Water Park at Sachindranagar Colony in Jirania, as well as several other tourism development projects being implemented across Tripura.

The session, held in the conference hall of the Minister’s office, brought together senior officials including the Secretary of the Tourism Department, the Director, and other key departmental stakeholders.

The meeting focused extensively on the current implementation status of major projects, the pace of ongoing construction, and the administrative interventions required to ensure that the projects are completed within the designated timeframe. According to officials, the Water Park at Jirania remains one of the Tourism Department’s most ambitious initiatives, designed to serve as a flagship recreational destination for residents and tourists from across the region.

During the deliberations, Minister Sushanta Chowdhury underscored the importance of balancing progress with uncompromised quality. He delivered clear instructions to departmental officials, stating that every tourism project under construction must adhere strictly to the stipulated deadlines while maintaining the highest possible standards of execution.

“All projects must be completed within the stipulated time frame, without compromising on quality,” the Minister firmly directed, emphasizing that quality assurance would remain a non-negotiable component in every stage of project development. He further noted that timely completion of infrastructure projects is critical for delivering long-term public benefit and strengthening Tripura’s competitiveness as an emerging tourist destination.

The Water Park, currently under construction at Sachindranagar Colony in Jirania, is expected to become a major leisure attraction once completed. Department sources highlighted that the park will provide diverse recreational amenities, modern water-based entertainment facilities, and family-friendly attractions aimed at both local residents and visitors from outside the state. With rising interest in recreational tourism across the Northeast, the Water Park is projected to significantly enhance Tripura’s tourism portfolio.

Alongside this flagship project, the Tourism Department is simultaneously implementing a wide range of developmental initiatives across multiple districts. These include upgradation of infrastructure at popular tourist sites, creation of new recreational facilities, promotion of eco-tourism circuits, and projects aimed at preserving cultural and historical heritage. Officials stated that these initiatives reflect the state government’s broader development vision focused on sustainable growth, environmental responsibility, and improved public amenities.

One of the key priorities highlighted during the meeting was the need to position Tripura as a vibrant tourism hub capable of drawing both domestic and international visitors. The state has witnessed a steady rise in tourist footfall over the past few years, and authorities believe that the addition of modern infrastructure—combined with effective promotion and strong governance—will further accelerate this upward trend.

Minister Chowdhury stressed that accountability and efficiency will be essential in ensuring that all tourism development projects move forward without delays. He directed departments to maintain continuous monitoring and issue progress updates regularly. The Minister also encouraged officials to identify challenges at the earliest stages so that timely solutions can be implemented without disrupting project timelines.

Senior officials including Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of the Tourism Department, and Prashant Badal Negi, Director of the Tourism Department, were present during the discussion. They briefed the Minister on the latest developments, progress milestones achieved, and the remaining phases of multiple ongoing projects. Both assured the Minister that their teams were committed to meeting all expectations regarding quality, transparency, and timely delivery.

The meeting concluded with directives to accelerate the pace of construction where needed, improve inter-departmental coordination, and enhance oversight mechanisms to prevent unnecessary delays. With multiple large-scale tourism projects nearing completion, the government aims to unlock new economic opportunities, encourage private investment, and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors to Tripura.

The government anticipates that once operational, the project will significantly contribute to the state’s recreational landscape and reinforce Tripura’s position as a growing tourism destination in the Northeast.
