Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury met NICCO Park officials in Kolkata to plan an eco-tourism, adventure, and water park project in Jirania. The initiative aims to boost Tripura’s global tourism appeal, create jobs, and drive sustainable regional growth.
Tripura’s Minister for Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury, held a strategic meeting on Tuesday in Kolkata with senior officials of NICCO Park, one of India’s most renowned amusement and theme park developers. The meeting centered on developing a world-class eco-tourism, adventure, and water park project in Sachindranagar Colony, Jirania, modeled after the iconic NICCO Park in Kolkata.
The initiative is part of Tripura’s larger vision to redefine its tourism landscape by blending innovation, sustainability, and entertainment. Chowdhury described the project as a “transformative step” towards placing Tripura on the global tourism map.
A Vision for Modern and Sustainable Tourism
During the meeting, Minister Chowdhury emphasized that Tripura’s government is determined to promote sustainable and employment-oriented tourism infrastructure. The proposed project aims to balance ecological conservation with modern leisure, offering visitors a unique experience that combines nature, culture, and adventure.
“Our goal is to create employment opportunities for the youth and make Tripura a more attractive destination for domestic and international tourists,” Chowdhury said, adding that such ventures will significantly boost the state’s economy.
The envisioned park will include eco-friendly infrastructure, adventure zones, recreational facilities, and a state-of-the-art water park designed to appeal to families, youth, and adventure enthusiasts alike. By replicating Kolkata’s NICCO Park model, Tripura seeks to leverage proven expertise in park design, operations, and visitor management.
Economic Growth and Employment Generation
The Tourism Minister noted that the Jirania project would act as a catalyst for regional economic development by attracting investment, generating employment, and encouraging entrepreneurship. Local artisans, hospitality professionals, and service providers are expected to benefit directly from increased tourist footfall.

“This initiative will not only boost Tripura’s tourism potential but will also revitalize local economies and skill development, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas,” Chowdhury stated.
He further highlighted the Tripura Tourism Department’s commitment to creating world-class destinations that offer both entertainment and educational value, thereby catering to a wide demographic of visitors.
Strategic Collaboration with NICCO Park
NICCO Park, which has been a benchmark for theme-based entertainment in India since 1991, will serve as a technical and conceptual guide for the Tripura project. The collaboration aims to ensure international safety standards, environmental responsibility, and high-quality visitor experiences.
Discussions also included aspects such as site planning, design innovation, water conservation, renewable energy integration, and operational sustainability. NICCO Park’s officials expressed enthusiasm about sharing their expertise and collaborating closely with the Tripura government to make the project a national model for green amusement infrastructure.
A Commitment to Long-Term Tourism Growth
Minister Chowdhury reiterated that this collaboration represents more than just a single project—it is a cornerstone of Tripura’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity, diversify attractions, and brand the state as a year-round destination.
“The Tourism Department will continue its proactive efforts to accelerate Tripura’s tourism development through innovative and sustainable initiatives,” he affirmed.
He also noted that upcoming projects would focus on eco-tourism circuits, cultural tourism promotion, and hospitality sector capacity-building to align with India’s larger vision of inclusive and responsible tourism growth.
A New Chapter for Tripura’s Tourism Identity
This strategic partnership between the Tripura Government and NICCO Park signals a new chapter in the state’s tourism evolution. With its emphasis on sustainability, modern infrastructure, and job creation, the project is poised to transform Tripura into an emerging tourism hub in Northeast India.
