Minister Tinku Roy, former MP Rebati Tripura, and other senior BJP leaders like Rampada Jamatia faced the fury of angry Bengali villagers at Gandacherra as they went to visit the place. The villagers who lost their home and business establishments in a one sided communal violence meted out at them three days ago, complained of administrative and police apathy towards them.
Gandacherra situation had remained highly volatile underneath despite massive security arrangements and when after three days the political leaders went there to ‘take stock of the situation and offer some solace’ they were gheraoed by the angry villagers. The furious villagers minced no words to castigate the administration, political leaders and the police in failing to meet the situation. They stated that for the violence at least three marriage ceremonies were cancelled even as they lost ther all belongings.The situation went almost out of control as at a point of time it seemed to have been going to leaders might get subjected physical assault. It was then the police officials managed to take them out and they left Gandacherra giving necessary instructions to the administrative officials.
The villagers alleged that neither MLA Nandita Reang – who is a TIPRA Motha MLA visited the victim Bengali families, nor the SDPO Bapi Debbarma or SDM Chondrojay Reang took adequate measures for relief and other supports.
Later the minister ad other BJP leaders went to SDM office and held a meeting there.
Senior BJP leader Subal Bhowmik said, they appealed to the villagers to maintain peace and harmony and assured them that while culprits would be brought to book, adequate compensation and reliefs would also be extended to them.
Earlier, TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma with senior TTAADC leaders had also visited Gandacherra but he did not visit the affected families. He had gone to visit the family of deceased Parameswar Reang. TPIRA Motha is ruling the TTAADC and the villagers affected were also resident of the areas under the ADC.
Official sources said that for about 200 villagers who had been rendered homeless as several murderous mobs attacked their hamlets, one relief camp was set up.
