AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder led the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation drive on World Environment Day in Ward No. 35. Emphasizing sapling care, environmental protection, and community participation, he urged residents to plant and nurture trees, reinforcing Agartala’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
Marking World Environment Day with a strong message of environmental responsibility, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder participated in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” plantation programme organized in Ward No. 35 and called upon citizens to actively contribute towards building a greener and healthier future.
The initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal, witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, public representatives, and community leaders. During the programme, Majumder planted a sapling in honour of his mother and highlighted the significance of tree plantation as both an environmental duty and a heartfelt tribute to loved ones.
Addressing the gathering, the Mayor said that while large-scale plantation drives are important, the true success of such initiatives depends on the care and protection given to saplings after they are planted. He stressed that the focus this year would be on nurturing newly planted trees to ensure their survival and long-term contribution to environmental sustainability.
“Today I planted a sapling in honour of my mother. Let us all come together to plant trees and make our environment greener. The real objective is not merely the number of saplings planted but the care we provide to help them grow into healthy trees,” Majumder stated.

The programme was attended by Ward Councillor Tushar Kanti Bhattacharjee, Ramnagar Mandal President Amitabh Bhattacharya, Councillor Nitu Dey Guha, Chairman of the Tripura Minority Development Corporation Jasim Uddin, Acting Chairman of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation Samar Roy, and several other distinguished guests.
Speaking on the occasion, participants emphasized the importance of collective efforts in protecting the environment amid growing concerns over climate change, deforestation, and urban pollution. The plantation campaign aimed not only to increase green cover across the city but also to inspire citizens to adopt environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.
Majumder reiterated that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility and encouraged every household to plant at least one tree. He noted that initiatives such as “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” create a meaningful connection between environmental protection and personal values, making community participation more impactful.
Local residents welcomed the initiative and appreciated the efforts of the Agartala Municipal Corporation in promoting environmental awareness. Many observed that such programmes help strengthen community bonds while contributing to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable urban environment.
