Massive political shift in Tripura as over 1,100 Tipra Motha Party members join BJP ahead of ADC elections, signaling growing demand for stability, transparency, and development among tribal communities under Minister Bikash Debbarma.

In a political development ahead of the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in Tripura, more than 1,100 members of the Tipra Motha Party officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in a large-scale event held on Saturday.

The joining programme took place at the Khorang Community Hall in Bachaibari, where 1,112 members representing 351 families formally switched allegiance under the leadership of Tapas Debbarma. The development comes at a crucial time when political parties are intensifying their campaigns to secure dominance in the ADC, a key administrative body governing tribal areas in the state.

Party leaders described the mass defection as a strong indicator of a changing political mindset among tribal communities. According to them, voters are gradually moving away from emotional and identity-based politics and are instead prioritizing governance, development, and administrative transparency.

Addressing the gathering, Bikash Debbarma, who currently serves as the Tribal Welfare Minister, emphasized that the large turnout reflects the aspirations of the people. “This massive support proves that people want progress, not politics driven by sentiment. They are choosing stability and transparent governance,” he said.

The minister also launched a sharp critique of the functioning of the ADC in recent years. He alleged that previous leadership had focused more on exploiting public emotions rather than delivering tangible results on the ground. “For too long, emotions were used as a political tool instead of focusing on development. Now is the time to change that trend and deliver real outcomes,” he added.

Highlighting the party’s roadmap, Debbarma assured that the BJP is committed to building a strong and stable government within the ADC framework. He outlined several key promises, including the implementation of the long-pending 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which aims to enhance the powers and autonomy of tribal councils.

Additionally, the minister set an ambitious electoral target, expressing confidence that the party would secure 50 seats in the ADC. He also emphasized the importance of introducing direct funding mechanisms to ensure that development initiatives reach grassroots levels without bureaucratic delays.

Political analysts believe that such large-scale defections could significantly influence the electoral dynamics in Tripura’s tribal regions. The shift not only strengthens the BJP’s organizational base but also raises questions about the future strategy and support base of the Tipra Motha Party.

As the ADC elections draw closer, the focus is expected to remain on issues such as development, governance, and the effective utilization of resources. The latest development underscores a broader narrative emerging in Tripura’s political landscape—one where voters are increasingly aligning themselves with promises of stability and measurable progress.
