Security forces in Manipur arrested six militants from KCP, PREPAK, and PLA, including a woman cadre. Arms, documents, and vehicles were seized during operations across districts as police intensified checkpoints and urged citizens to avoid rumours and misinformation.
Security forces in Manipur achieved a major success in their ongoing counter-insurgency operations as six militants belonging to different banned extremist groups, including a woman cadre, were arrested from various districts on Sunday. The joint operation, conducted by Manipur Police and other security agencies, also led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, incriminating documents, and several Aadhaar cards, officials said.
According to an official statement, the arrested individuals were members of three notorious outfits — the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). These groups have long been active in the region, carrying out extortion, intimidation, and attacks against security forces and civilians.
The militants were nabbed from Kakching, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts, areas that have seen frequent militant movements in recent months. During the coordinated raids, the security forces recovered a car, several mobile phones, and documents linked to their operations.
A senior police official said, “The arrested cadres were involved in multiple criminal activities, including forcible collection of money from civilians, government employees, and contractors. Their arrest is a significant step in dismantling the network of underground groups operating in Manipur.”
Authorities believe that the arrests could help unveil key information about the militant groups’ funding channels and communication networks. The woman cadre’s involvement, in particular, has drawn attention, as women have increasingly been used by insurgent groups for logistics and intelligence operations in the northeastern region.
Intensified Security Measures Across Manipur
Manipur Police have intensified operations across the state amid ongoing unrest and rising reports of militant regrouping. Security forces have set up 115 checkpoints (nakas) across various districts, including both hill and valley areas, to monitor and restrict illegal movements of armed groups and vehicles.
These checkpoints are part of a larger strategy to ensure area domination and secure the mixed-populated and vulnerable regions that have witnessed sporadic clashes and militant activity. Continuous frisking, patrols, and intelligence-based raids are being carried out to prevent further insurgent activities.
In addition, a large number of escort convoys have been deployed to facilitate the movement of essential goods and vehicles along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37) — a crucial lifeline for the state’s economy and supplies. Authorities are providing security convoys along sensitive stretches to ensure uninterrupted transportation and prevent ambushes by insurgent groups.
Police Appeal for Public Cooperation
Manipur Police have urged citizens to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours, and verify information before believing in any unverified videos or posts circulating online. “There are possibilities of fake posts being circulated on social media. The public is cautioned that uploading and sharing such content will invite legal action,” the police statement said.
People have been advised to contact the Central Control Room for verification of any audio or video material circulating online. The appeal comes amid a rise in misinformation that has, in some cases, escalated communal tension and panic among local residents.
The police also reiterated their call for the return of looted arms, ammunition, and explosives that were stolen during recent incidents of violence. “Those in possession of looted weapons must return them immediately to the nearest police or security forces post,” the statement added.
Sustained Efforts to Restore Stability
The arrest of the six militants underscores the continued determination of security agencies to curb insurgency and restore peace in Manipur. Despite the challenges of operating in difficult terrain and maintaining order in ethnically sensitive regions, law enforcement agencies have maintained a proactive stance through coordinated intelligence and field operations.
Officials believe that continued vigilance, community cooperation, and strong security coordination between the police, paramilitary, and central forces will be essential in maintaining stability and curbing militant influence in the northeastern state.

As operations continue, the arrests are expected to provide vital leads that could help security forces dismantle remaining militant cells still active in Manipur’s remote areas.
