Madhya Pradesh seeks a strategic trade partnership with Assam across sectors like tea, petrochemicals, tourism, and eco-development. CM Mohan Yadav unveils new investment policy, promoting joint ventures, employment, and sustainable growth, aiming to strengthen economic ties with the Northeast.
Madhya Pradesh is moving decisively to strengthen economic and trade ties with Assam, aiming for a multi-sectoral partnership that could benefit both states significantly. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav made the announcement during his visit to Guwahati, where he addressed investors and industry leaders from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Bhutan.
During his address, CM Yadav emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s vision for collaboration across diverse sectors including petrochemicals, tea, wellness, cement, tourism, pharmaceuticals, and eco-development. “Assam’s strengths in tea, bamboo, and elephant conservation offer valuable lessons for Madhya Pradesh,” he said, highlighting the potential for knowledge sharing and joint initiatives between the two states.
He outlined several strategic opportunities for partnership. In cement, real estate, steel, logistics, and modern construction, Madhya Pradesh is looking to explore joint ventures that can leverage Assam’s expertise and resources. The Chief Minister also pointed out that Madhya Pradesh’s nine tiger reserves could benefit from Assam’s experience in managing elephants, particularly lessons learned from Kaziranga National Park. He suggested the possibility of animal exchange programs and emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s previous success in the translocation of the extinct Cheetah, showcasing the state’s commitment to innovative wildlife conservation.
The Chief Minister also focused on potential synergies in handicrafts, silk production, and bamboo cultivation. Both states are prominent bamboo producers, and CM Yadav proposed collaboration through Assam’s Bamboo Council to promote agro-industrial growth in Madhya Pradesh. Such cooperation could enhance production, create employment opportunities, and foster sustainable economic development.
Connectivity was another key point raised during the visit. CM Yadav suggested the introduction of a direct Bhopal–Guwahati flight to facilitate trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Enhanced connectivity, he said, would not only make business transactions easier but also encourage tourist flows and strengthen people-to-people interactions between the two regions.
In a major highlight of his visit, CM Yadav unveiled Madhya Pradesh’s new industry policy aimed at attracting large-scale investment while promoting labor-intensive sectors. Key incentives include a Rs 30 crore subsidy for investors establishing hospitals or hotels with a minimum investment of Rs 100 crore, as well as a grant of Rs 5,000 per worker for labor-intensive industries. “These incentives reflect our commitment to making Madhya Pradesh a preferred destination for national and international investors,” the Chief Minister said.
The policy emphasizes cluster-based development, streamlined approvals, and sustainable industrial growth, ensuring that new investments generate employment and contribute to inclusive development. By offering attractive incentives, Madhya Pradesh is positioning itself as a business-friendly state capable of complementing the industrial and agro-based strengths of Assam and other Northeastern states.
Assam’s industrial hubs, ranging from petrochemical units in Dibrugarh to tea estates in Tinsukia, were identified as natural partners for Madhya Pradesh. By combining Assam’s production capabilities with Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure, policy support, and investor-friendly ecosystem, both states can unlock new avenues for trade, investment, and innovation.
This initiative marks a significant step toward building enduring economic bridges between central and northeastern India. The collaboration is expected to generate employment, boost trade, enhance tourism, and promote sustainable development. By leveraging each state’s unique strengths, Madhya Pradesh and Assam aim to create a model of inter-state cooperation that could serve as an example for the rest of the country.
