There is no reason to worry about the LPG supply in the state as the prevalent shortage would soon be met , assured Sibaprasad Datta, president of Tripura LPG Distributors’ Association said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press meet in Agartala Press Club the Association leaders said, the LPG supply is expected to be normalized within the next few days.

“The LPG crisis in the state would be resolved in the next few days as local production is being increased along with bringing LPG containers from Silchar,”.

Datta said, the shortage of LPG supply was first seen in January last when production in the state fell short of core production. Although the cause is yet to be ascertained, the crisis was caused due to rains and other disruptions in the transport system during the monsoon season, Datta added.

The officials of the association said the supply of LPG to distributors has been reduced due to low production. As a result, distributors as well as consumers are being harassed.

“We have informed our licensing authorities about the deficit but no progress has been made before mid-May. Now with the help of Silchar agencies and increasing our local production, we are trying to meet the deficit in the next ten days, ” he told reporters.

He said there are a total of 7.66 lakhs customers in the state where only 79 distributing agencies and nine new companies are in process. He said, the cost of a LPG 14.2 kg cylinder is Rs 1163.50 now, Datta added.

Tripura LPG distributors Association’s General Secretary Sandipan Saha, Joint Secretary Rupak Majumder and other officials were present in the press conference.

The officials appealed to customers not to worry about the shortage as the demands would be addressed soon.
