LGBI Airport, Guwahati, reports 7.67% growth in FY 2024-25, setting records in passenger traffic, cargo, and international routes. Recognised for customer service and sustainability, it strengthens its position as the premier air gateway to Northeast India.
Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati has recorded an impressive 7.67% growth in passenger traffic in the financial year 2024-25 compared to the previous fiscal year 2023-24, airport officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to an LGBI Airport spokesperson, the airport efficiently handled 6.57 million passengers during the fiscal year, including 3.26 million domestic arrivals and 3.30 million domestic departures. The airport also recorded a remarkable surge in international traffic, handling 91,594 international passengers—the highest since the commencement of its commercial international operations on October 8, 2021.
A new record was set on December 12, 2024, when the airport served 21,444 passengers in a single day, including transit travelers. The increase in international footfall is largely credited to the expansion of LGBI’s international connectivity, with the introduction of direct flights to Paro (Bhutan), Malaysia, and Singapore.
Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs) also saw growth, with 45,409 domestic and 1,009 international ATMs recorded. On the domestic front, the airport expanded its route network by launching new flights connecting Guwahati to Ahmedabad, Durgapur (West Bengal), and Ziro (Arunachal Pradesh). These new routes are expected to bolster trade, tourism, and cultural exchange across regions.
Cargo operations at LGBI Airport saw a dramatic rise in FY 2024-25, with 12,893 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo handled, marking an extraordinary 183.91% year-on-year increase from 4,550 MT in FY 2023-24. December 2024 alone witnessed the handling of 225 MT of perishable cargo—one of the highest monthly volumes ever.
In terms of passenger service, the airport achieved Level Two of the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Customer Experience Accreditation, highlighting its continued efforts to enhance traveller satisfaction.
Additionally, LGBI Airport has been recognised for its sustainability initiatives. It was awarded the Greentech PCWR Award 2024 under the Waste Management and Recycling Leadership category for its innovative and eco-conscious practices.
To further streamline passenger services, the airport has strengthened its DigiYatra facilities. It now operates a dedicated DigiYatra lane with four enabled e-gates, and has added one more e-gate in the pre-security check area, increasing the total to six in that section.
As LGBI Airport continues to grow and modernize, it is steadily strengthening its position as the key aviation hub and premier gateway to northeast India, while maintaining a strong focus on connectivity, efficiency, and sustainability.
