Tripura Kishan Morcha refutes CPM leader Pabitra Kar’s allegations, highlighting the BJP-led government’s record achievements in farmers’ welfare, including MSP procurement, KCC disbursals, fertilizer subsidy, farm mechanisation, and natural farming expansion across the state.
The Tripura Pradesh Kishan Morcha has firmly dismissed allegations made by senior CPM leader Pabitra Kar regarding farmers’ distress, asserting that the BJP-led state government has achieved record progress in agriculture and farmers’ welfare over the past seven years.
Addressing a press conference on Monday, Kishan Morcha state president Prabir Boron Roy stated that the government’s focus on direct benefit transfers, mechanisation, and market expansion has transformed the agricultural landscape of the state.
“The government has ensured transparent, timely, and direct benefits to cultivators under multiple flagship schemes. Our farmers are now receiving financial assistance without middlemen interference,” Roy asserted.
Record Procurement and Direct Payment
Roy revealed that the Tripura government procured 4.04 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from 2.44 lakh farmers, ensuring ₹804 crore in direct bank transfers. He emphasized that such an efficient procurement system had never existed during the previous Left regime.
He added that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) initiative and the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme have become crucial instruments for financial inclusion among farmers. The Kishan Morcha’s official release reported that over ₹10,000 crore has been disbursed through KCC loans, supporting cultivators in meeting seasonal expenses and investing in modern agricultural tools.
Subsidies and Support to Strengthen Farming
The Kishan Morcha highlighted the government’s comprehensive approach to agricultural support. During the last fiscal year, ₹10 crore was provided as fertilizer subsidy, while 2 crore litres of organic manure were distributed to 2.61 lakh farmers. Additionally, ₹9 crore was allocated under the Farm Mechanisation Bank scheme to promote the use of modern equipment across rural areas.
Roy said, “Our government has moved beyond the traditional methods of farming. We are promoting modernisation and technology adoption to improve productivity and ensure long-term sustainability for our farmers.”
Infrastructure Development and Market Expansion
In an effort to strengthen the rural economy, the state government has constructed 144 rural Krishi Bazars, with 30 more under development. A total of ₹33 crore has been invested in creating new agricultural markets to ensure better access and fair pricing for produce.
Moreover, seven Agro-Processing and Export Promotion Clusters (AP&EPGCs) have been launched to facilitate crop processing and export opportunities. These clusters are expected to enhance income generation and encourage entrepreneurship in the agri-sector.
Promotion of Natural Farming and Storage Facilities
Roy further shared that 5,550 hectares of land have been brought under natural farming, and 100 model natural farming units have been established to encourage sustainable agricultural practices.
To improve post-harvest management, the number of cold storages has been increased from 36 to 74, while 47 new godowns are currently under construction. This initiative aims to minimise wastage and improve the shelf life of agricultural produce.
Rising Agricultural Budget and Food Self-Sufficiency Goal
The Kishan Morcha emphasized that the agriculture budget has seen a significant jump—from ₹900 crore in 2017–18 to ₹1,458 crore in 2025–26, reflecting an increase of ₹514 crore.
Roy stated that rice production in Tripura has increased by 20 percent since 2018. The government now aims to achieve self-sufficiency in food grains within the next three years.
Transparency and Direct Benefit Transfers
Highlighting the impact of digital governance, Roy noted that all financial assistance now reaches farmers directly through digital platforms, ensuring full transparency and accountability.
“Our double-engine government is committed to empowering every farmer in Tripura. Through better credit access, infrastructure development, and modernisation, we’ve brought visible changes to the agricultural sector,” said Bishik Jamatia, Secretary of the Kishan Morcha.
The Kishan Morcha’s strong rebuttal comes as a direct response to Pabitra Kar’s accusations of farmer neglect under the BJP-led government. The Morcha leaders asserted that the opposition’s claims were politically motivated and disconnected from the on-ground reality of progress seen across Tripura’s farming community.
