Tension erupted at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in Kailashahar after a uniform dispute led to a standoff between students and outsiders. Police were deployed to restore order. Students blame the administration for ignoring calls for mandatory uniforms and stricter security. ABVP has filed a formal complaint demanding immediate action.

Tensions ran high on Monday afternoon at Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya, Kailashahar, following a dispute over college uniforms that spiraled into a face-off between students and a group of outsiders. The situation became so volatile that both the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and local police had to be deployed on campus to restore order.

The incident began when Ashraful Islam, a first-semester student, reportedly arrived at the college without wearing the prescribed uniform. His presence without uniform raised objections from several senior students, who insisted he leave the premises. What began as a seemingly minor disciplinary issue quickly escalated when Ashraful allegedly contacted a group of outsiders, who then entered the college campus to confront the senior students.

In a swift response, the senior students locked the college gates to prevent the outsiders from moving further into the campus, resulting in a heated standoff. The tense exchange drew attention from local authorities, and security personnel from both the Kailashahar police and the Tripura State Rifles rushed to the scene. The presence of law enforcement was instrumental in defusing the confrontation, and the outsiders eventually vacated the premises.

Although the situation was brought under control without any physical altercations, the incident has triggered widespread concern among the student body. Several students blamed the college administration for failing to take prior action on long-standing issues. They pointed to repeated verbal and written complaints regarding two major concerns: the lack of enforcement of the college’s uniform policy and the unchecked entry of outsiders onto the campus during working hours.

One student leader commented, “This is not the first time we’ve raised these concerns. We’ve requested stricter regulations and proper monitoring, but the administration has consistently ignored our appeals. Today’s incident was a result of that negligence.”

Adding weight to the discontent, representatives of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) submitted a fresh written complaint to the college authority on Monday. The complaint demanded that wearing the college uniform be made compulsory and called for the implementation of strict security measures to prevent unauthorized entry by non-students.

The student representatives criticized the college administration for what they described as “gross administrative negligence” and emphasized the need for urgent reforms in campus safety and discipline. Notably, the college principal was on leave at the time of the incident, leaving students even more frustrated over the perceived lack of leadership during the crisis.

The event has sparked broader discussions about campus security and administrative accountability in educational institutions across the region. While the immediate tension has been resolved, the underlying issues remain unaddressed, prompting many to call for swift and decisive action by the college authorities.

Parents and faculty members have also expressed concern over the security of students and the potential for future confrontations if stricter policies are not enforced. The incident has made it clear that disciplinary lapses, when left unchecked, can lead to disruptive and dangerous outcomes.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by the college administration regarding the incident or the students’ demands. However, with growing pressure from students and student organizations, it is likely that the matter will be taken up seriously in the coming days.

The students, particularly the senior ones who have been actively raising these issues, hope that the administration will implement concrete measures to ensure discipline and safety on the campus, including mandatory uniform policies and restricted access for non-students.
