In a display of frustration and desperation, a large number of job aspirants gathered in front of the residence of Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, on Friday, demanding the immediate recruitment of qualified youths. The protesters highlighted the long-standing issue of delayed recruitment and the lack of transparency in the selection process.
The unrest among job aspirants can be traced back to the 2023 assembly elections in Tripura, during which the recruitment of Secondary Teachers’ Graduate Training (STGT) became a highly contentious issue. Aspiring candidates had repeatedly surrounded the residences of several ministers, demanding the publication of the STGT 2022 examination results and the subsequent recruitment process.
However, due to the focus on the assembly elections, the recruitment process was abruptly halted, leaving thousands of aspiring candidates in limbo. Speaking to reporters, one of the job aspirants expressed their disappointment, saying, “After investing considerable effort, we appeared for the STGT 2022 examination. Yet, the results have not been published, and the recruitment process remains incomplete.”
According to reports from the ground, the state currently faces a severe shortage of teachers, with more than 5,000 vacant teaching positions across Tripura. The unemployed job seekers emphasized the urgency of the situation and appealed to Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the position of state education minister, to address their hardships and expedite the completion of the STGT recruitment process.
Furthermore, the job aspirants voiced their dissatisfaction with the lack of response from the Chief Minister’s office. Despite repeatedly sending letters requesting an appointment with Dr. Manik Saha, they claimed to have received no feedback or acknowledgment.
The protesters urged the state chief minister to approach their grievances with a humanitarian perspective and prioritize the completion of the recruitment process. They emphasized the importance of filling the vacant teaching positions to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions and the welfare of students across the state.
As the standoff continues between the job aspirants and the state government, the unrest highlights the growing frustration among unemployed youth and the pressing need for transparent and efficient recruitment processes. The state government faces mounting pressure to address the concerns of job aspirants and take necessary steps to alleviate their plight.
