NFR launches Narangi–Agartala train on March 13, boosting rail connectivity between Assam and Tripura. The inaugural special train with 13 coaches will enhance regional travel, economic links, and passenger convenience across Northeast India.
Rail connectivity between Assam and Tripura is set to receive a significant boost as the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has approved the introduction of a new train service connecting Narangi in Assam with Agartala, the capital of Tripura. The inaugural run of the much-anticipated train will take place on March 13, 2026, marking another step forward in strengthening transportation links in Northeast India.
According to an official notification issued by the NFR General Manager, the inaugural service will operate as train number 05660 Narangi–Agartala Inaugural Special and will run as a one-way special train during the launch event. The train is scheduled to be ceremonially flagged off from Narangi railway station at approximately 2:00 pm on Friday.
Railway authorities confirmed that the special train will comprise 13 coaches, including air-conditioned coaches, sleeper class compartments, and general seating, ensuring comfortable travel for a wide range of passengers. The rake maintenance for this train will primarily be handled at New Guwahati, which serves as a major railway maintenance hub in the region.
As per the announced schedule, the train will depart Narangi at 2:30 pm and travel overnight through several important stations across Assam and Tripura. After completing the journey through the northeastern rail corridor, the train is expected to arrive in Agartala at around 5:45 am the following morning.
Railway officials stated that the regular daily service between Narangi and Agartala will be announced separately following the successful completion of the inaugural run. The upcoming announcement is expected to include the full timetable, operational frequency, and ticket booking details.
The launch of this train service is expected to significantly improve regional mobility and passenger convenience, particularly for travelers commuting between Assam and Tripura. It will also provide an alternative transportation option for students, traders, government employees, and tourists moving between the two states.
Transportation experts believe that enhanced railway connectivity will contribute to economic integration, tourism growth, and faster movement of people across the Northeast. With Agartala already connected to major rail networks via Assam, the addition of a direct Narangi service will further strengthen the region’s transportation infrastructure.
Officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway emphasized that expanding rail services remains a priority in the Northeast, where improved connectivity plays a crucial role in regional development and national integration.
