Jeet Adani calls Assam a symbol of unity and harmony at Guwahati Airport’s new terminal inauguration, as CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announces expansion plans, five-star hotels, and an aero hub vision to boost connectivity, tourism, and trade.
Assam has emerged as a shining example of unity, harmony, and inclusive progress, said Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, during the inauguration of the new integrated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Sunday.
Addressing dignitaries and guests at the ceremony in Guwahati, Adani praised the people of Assam for demonstrating how diverse communities can live together with dignity and mutual respect while preserving their rich cultural heritage. He described the state as a beacon of collective growth rooted in inclusiveness and resilience.
“Assam has always stood for unity and collective progress. The people here work together with dignity and mutual respect. The state has set an example of harmony and cultural richness for the rest of the country,” Adani said.
He emphasized that Assam’s development story is unique because it has embraced diversity rather than allowing divisions to weaken its social fabric. According to him, the state’s growth has been guided by the principles of coexistence, tradition, and forward-looking vision.
Highlighting the natural beauty and cultural vibrancy of Assam, Adani noted that the region represents a harmonious blend of nature and humanity. “Assam is known for its natural beauty and cultural heritage. Every image of Assam reflects its vibrant people and unique culture. Its traditions, festivals, and way of life are symbols of pride and identity,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with historians who preserve the legacy of civilizations, Adani stressed that respecting one’s roots is essential to building a strong and sustainable future. He described Assam’s journey as a “beautiful test of resilience and unity,” calling it a matter of honor for all stakeholders involved in the state’s progress.
New Guwahati Airport Terminal Marks Major Aviation Milestone
The newly constructed integrated terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport officially became operational on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s aviation infrastructure. The facility was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration, Sarma said the terminal has been designed to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve the overall travel experience. He added that the development positions Guwahati as a key aviation gateway to the Northeast and neighboring Southeast Asian regions.
The Chief Minister announced that two five-star hotels will be constructed near the airport terminal to cater to the increasing number of domestic and international travelers. These hospitality projects are expected to strengthen tourism infrastructure and generate substantial employment opportunities for local residents.
Sarma also revealed that the state government is exploring the possibility of constructing an additional terminal within the next two years to accommodate rapidly growing air traffic. He outlined plans to develop an “aero hub” at Borjhar, modeled on major aviation hubs such as Indira Gandhi International Airport.
“Our vision is to transform Guwahati into a major aviation and logistics hub for the entire Northeast. The proposed aero hub will strengthen connectivity, promote trade, tourism, and investment, and reduce dependency on metro cities outside the region,” Sarma said.
According to airport officials, the new integrated terminal features modern architecture, sustainability-focused design, advanced security systems, expanded check-in counters, upgraded baggage handling systems, and improved parking and surface transport connectivity.
Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is currently the busiest airport in the Northeast and serves as a crucial transport hub connecting the region with major cities across India. The expansion is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting Assam’s economic aspirations by attracting investment, enhancing tourism, and strengthening regional trade links.
