India’s GST Collection Tops ₹2 Lakh Crore for Second Straight Month in May –

India’s gross Goods and Services Tax, or GST, collection crossed the 2 lakh crore rupees mark for the second consecutive month in May. According to data released by the Union Ministry of Finance, gross GST collection in May stood at 2.01 lakh crore rupees, which is 16.4 percent higher in comparison to 1.72 lakh crore rupees collected in May 2024. In April 2025, India’s GST collections surged 12.6 percent to an all-time high of 2.37 lakh crore rupees.
The year-on-year growth in May was driven by a 25.2 percent jump in GST collected from imports and a 13.7 percent rise from domestic transactions. Gross GST revenue from imports was 51,266 crore rupees, while domestic sources contributed 1.50 lakh crore rupees.
After refunds, net GST revenue for May was 1.74 lakh crore, which is 20.4% higher in comparison to 1.44 lakh crore rupees collected in May 2024. Total refunds for the month was 27,210 crore rupees, down 4 percent year-on-year.
