Indian Army’s Albert Ekka Brigade organised a two-week Agniveer pre-recruitment training programme in Tripura, providing physical fitness, academic coaching and motivational guidance to aspiring candidates under the Agnipath scheme while strengthening youth empowerment, discipline and national service participation in Northeast India.

A two-week pre-recruitment training programme aimed at preparing young aspirants for recruitment under the Agnipath scheme was successfully conducted in Tripura by the Indian Army’s Albert Ekka Brigade under the aegis of the Spear Corps. The initiative focused on guiding and mentoring youth from the northeastern state to help them qualify for the Agniveer recruitment process through academic preparation, physical conditioning and personality development.

According to a defence spokesman, the programme was organised from May 4 to May 16 at Salbagan on the outskirts of Agartala. The training was conducted through a dedicated Agniveer Recruitment and Training Cell established by the Brigade to provide structured and disciplined guidance to aspiring candidates seeking to join the Indian Army.

A total of 29 candidates participated in the intensive training programme. The aspirants underwent comprehensive coaching designed to improve their performance in both written examinations and physical fitness assessments required for Army recruitment. The training environment reflected the ethos, discipline and values associated with the Indian Army, while encouraging young participants to develop confidence, leadership qualities and commitment towards national service.

Officials stated that the curriculum was carefully designed to ensure holistic preparation for the recruitment process. Daily academic coaching sessions focused on subjects such as logical reasoning, mathematics and general science, which form a crucial part of the written examination under the Agnipath recruitment system. Trainers also provided regular practice sessions and motivational guidance to strengthen the confidence of the candidates.

Alongside academic preparation, equal importance was given to physical conditioning. The aspirants participated in endurance running, obstacle training and strength-building exercises to improve stamina and readiness for the Physical Fitness Test conducted during Army recruitment. The programme also included awareness sessions on medical standards prescribed by the Indian Army.

The candidates were guided on maintaining proper nutrition, physical posture, hygiene and overall health management to ensure long-term fitness and wellbeing. Army personnel supervising the programme highlighted the importance of discipline and consistency in maintaining the physical and mental standards expected from future soldiers.

Beyond examination and fitness preparation, the programme also emphasised character building and personality enhancement. The participants were introduced to the core values of the Indian Army, including integrity, discipline, selfless service and esprit de corps. Officials said the initiative was intended not only to prepare candidates for recruitment but also to inspire a sense of responsibility and patriotism among the youth.

The programme received positive support from local residents and families, reflecting growing enthusiasm among Tripura’s youth to serve in the armed forces. Defence officials noted that the initiative forms part of the Indian Army’s broader commitment towards youth empowerment, nation-building and creating meaningful opportunities for the youth of Northeast India.

The Albert Ekka Brigade carries a distinguished legacy in India’s military history. The Brigade played a significant role during the 1971 India-Pakistan war from the Tripura sector and earned recognition for exceptional bravery. It has the unique distinction of receiving two of the nation’s highest gallantry awards in both wartime and peacetime, including the only Param Vir Chakra awarded during the 1971 conflict.

The Brigade was relocated to the Agartala Military Station last year, a move considered historically significant because Operation Cactus Lily during the 1971 war was launched from the Agartala sector. During that battle, Lance Naik Albert Ekka of 14 Guards made the supreme sacrifice while neutralising a critical enemy bunker that posed a major threat to Agartala. He was later posthumously honoured with the Param Vir Chakra for his extraordinary courage and sacrifice.
