Agartala Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Agartala Smart City Mission on Thursday extended financial assistance to 37 families that had been given permanent resettlement to Buddhamandir housing complex. Earlier the families were staying at government land located in the vicinity of river Howrah posing hindrances in the progress of an ambitious river front project funded by the central government.
A formal function was organized on the occasion in presence of Mayor Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder at Battala, Howrah Basti. Speaking at the function, the Mayor said, “Under the apt leadership of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, this government is working hard to beautify the city. The newly formed AMC corporation also believes that people of the city did not receive what they aspired for years.”
AMC Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Agartala Smart City Mission Sailesh Kumar Yadav said, “Under the resettlement project, all the families are entitled to get Rs 36,000 as assistance for monthly allowance for the next one year. Another 50,000 is being given for procurement of necessary equipment. All the families would be permanently shifted to a government housing complex located at Buddha Mandir”.
According to Yadav, Howrah river front development is an ambitious project taken up by the government to transform a stretch of 8 kilometers of Howrah River flowing in the main city into a recreational spot.
“We have plans to raise horticultural and floricultural orchards within the area earmarked for the project. Apart from that, several equipment for giving a pleasing experience to the tourists would be installed soon”, he added.
