Veteran Bollywood actress and politician Hema Malini has reassured fans and well-wishers about her husband Dharmendra’s health condition after reports surfaced that the iconic actor had been hospitalized in Mumbai. In an emotional social media post, Hema Malini expressed her gratitude to fans and the medical team for their concern and care.
Taking to Instagram, the actress shared a heartwarming throwback photo of her husband, writing,
“I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji who is in hospital for observation. He is being continuously monitored, and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”
Dharmendra Under Observation at Breach Candy Hospital
Sources close to the family confirmed that the 88-year-old actor is currently admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai for observation. Reports indicate that the veteran star had been facing breathing difficulties and was briefly placed on a ventilator as a precautionary measure.

Dharmendra’s sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, were spotted arriving at the hospital on Monday to check on their father. Sunny, accompanied by his son, avoided media attention by covering his face, while Bobby was seen with his wife, Tanya Deol. Their visit drew emotional reactions from fans gathered outside the hospital, many of whom were seen praying for the actor’s recovery.
Adding to the support, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan also paid a personal visit to the hospital. The actor, dressed in his rugged ‘Galwan’ look, was seen entering the hospital premises late in the evening, underscoring the deep bond shared between the two generations of stars.
Family Requests Privacy and Prayers
Sunny Deol’s team released an official statement to calm speculation regarding Dharmendra’s condition.
“Mr. Dharmendra is stable and under observation. Further updates will be shared as available. We request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family’s privacy during this time,” the statement read.
Hema Malini, who had earlier addressed the media during Dharmendra’s last hospital visit, had assured that her husband was “doing fine.” However, with his recent health challenges, she once again reached out to fans for prayers, highlighting how much the actor continues to mean to the film fraternity and the audience.
Dharmendra’s Illustrious Journey in Indian Cinema
Born in 1935 in Ludhiana, Punjab, Dharmendra began his cinematic journey after winning a Filmfare-Bimal Roy talent hunt in 1958. His raw charm and expressive eyes immediately captured the attention of filmmakers, paving the way for a career that would redefine the image of the quintessential Bollywood hero.
His breakthrough came with ‘Phool Aur Patthar’ (1966), which established him as a leading man known for both strength and sensitivity. However, it was his role as Veeru in ‘Sholay’ (1975) that immortalized him in Indian cinema history. His camaraderie with Amitabh Bachchan, his witty dialogues, and his on-screen chemistry with Hema Malini turned the film into an all-time classic.
Dharmendra’s range as an actor was vast — from his comedic brilliance in ‘Chupke Chupke’ to his action-packed performances in ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ and ‘Dharam Veer’, he seamlessly balanced diverse genres. Over the decades, he earned the affectionate title of “He-Man of Bollywood,” not only for his muscular persona but for his emotional depth and humility.
A Legend Loved by Generations
Despite his immense stardom, Dharmendra is known for his grounded nature and simplicity. Now residing at his Khandala farmhouse with his first wife, Prakash Kaur, the actor reportedly moved away from Mumbai due to the increasing pollution levels. Even in semi-retirement, he remains deeply loved by fans across generations, who continue to celebrate his films and legacy.
