In an attempt to give a boost to the higher education the state government is planning to set up at least six universities -of them four are private varsities and two are government varsities which include a Women’s University and a Buddhist University in the state.
“If everything goes as planned then the new Women’s University and the Buddhist University will come up from next year itself”, said Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday while launching Post Graduate (PG) programmes in six General Degree Colleges. The launching of the PG courses was held at at Matangini Pritilata hall of Agartala Women’s College.
The Education minister in the programm informed the gathering that the six colleges where these PG courses would be introduced in English and Bengali, were- MBB College Agartala, Women’s College Agartala, ICVC Belonia, GDC Dharmanagar, RKM Kailashahar and NSM Udaipur.
“This is for the first time that there General Degree Colleges will teach PG Course in Bengali & English. My best wishes to the students for their future endeavours” Nath said.
“We have taken several steps to improve the education quality in the state and also to make the higher education available for all eligible students”, said the Education Minister
He said, as many as 21 colleges out of 25 general degree colleges of the state had already got accredited by NAAC. Besides, National Forensic Sciences University, National Law College, IIIT and an English medium College have already been set up.
“All these show the sincerity and efforts of the present government in bringing about a change and induce quality the education sector”, he said.
Chairman of Tripura State Higher Education Council Prof. Arunudoy Saha, Higher Education director N.C. Sharma and Principal of Women’s College Dr. Manidipa Debbarma were present in the programme.
