Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu visited South Tripura’s border villages to interact with farmers, betel leaf cultivators, and workers. He stressed the importance of e-marketing, water management, and modern techniques to boost agriculture while assuring government support for local farmers to strengthen the rural economy.
Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu undertook a two-day visit to South Tripura district this week with the aim of directly interacting with residents of border villages and understanding their daily struggles. The visit was focused on strengthening ties with local communities, particularly farmers and cultivators who play a vital role in sustaining the rural economy of the state.
On Thursday morning, around 11:30 am, the Governor reached Matai Gram Panchayat, where he attended an interactive session at the grounds of East Rajnagar High School. The meeting brought together farmers, agricultural workers, betel leaf growers, and other residents from the border areas. The Governor listened patiently to their concerns and shared his vision for agricultural and economic development in Tripura.
During his address, Governor Nallu emphasized that local production combined with effective marketing strategies can act as a game changer for the rural economy. He pointed out that while Tripura is blessed with fertile land and hardworking farmers, the absence of proper marketing channels often prevents cultivators from receiving fair value for their produce. To address this gap, he encouraged farmers to explore e-marketing platforms, which can provide them with access to wider markets and better financial returns.
The Governor was also briefed about betel leaf cultivation in the Rishyamukh region, which has been a traditional agricultural practice in parts of South Tripura. Farmers highlighted the specific challenges they face, including fluctuating market prices, transportation issues, and lack of organized support. In response, Governor Nallu assured the cultivators that the government is committed to taking effective measures to encourage and support betel leaf farmers, ensuring that their livelihoods remain secure.
Another key issue discussed during the session was the importance of water management in agriculture. Governor Nallu underscored that water conservation techniques are crucial to boosting productivity and sustaining farming in the face of climate challenges. Drawing examples from Karnataka and other southern states, he explained how modern machines and scientific methods have helped farmers efficiently manage water resources. He urged Tripura’s farmers to adopt similar practices, noting that better irrigation and conservation systems could significantly increase crop yields in the state.
The Governor’s visit also carried symbolic importance, as it took place in a sensitive border region where residents often face unique difficulties. Communities living along the international boundary encounter issues related to connectivity, security, limited access to markets, and dependency on agriculture for survival. By meeting them in person, Governor Nallu not only acknowledged their hardships but also reinforced the government’s commitment to address their needs.
Speaking after the event, several farmers and local residents expressed their appreciation for the Governor’s initiative to interact with them directly. They shared that such visits help build confidence and give them hope that their voices are being heard at the highest levels of administration.
The two-day program is also part of a broader effort by the Governor’s office to promote inclusive development in rural and border regions of Tripura. Experts believe that the Governor’s push for modern marketing practices and water management could provide long-term benefits for the state’s agriculture sector, particularly in economically vulnerable border areas.
By prioritizing farmer-centric policies, improving rural infrastructure, and ensuring proper utilization of resources, Tripura aims to empower its agricultural communities. The Governor’s call for adopting modern techniques while preserving traditional practices reflects a balanced approach to rural development.

Governor Nallu concluded his interaction by assuring the farmers that the government would stand by them in their journey toward self-reliance and prosperity. He urged young farmers to take advantage of digital tools and innovations, stating that the future of Tripura’s agriculture lies in combining traditional wisdom with modern technology.
The visit ended with a renewed sense of optimism among the residents, who felt encouraged that their concerns are receiving due attention. For the people of Matai and surrounding villages, the Governor’s presence was a reminder that their struggles and contributions to the state’s economy are both recognized and valued.
