Tripura Governor’s fund supports new duck hatchery unit in West Pilak, boosting rural livelihoods, empowering women SHGs, and strengthening the rural economy through sustainable duckling production under TRLM and RD Department initiatives.
A new duckling hatchery unit has been established in West Pilak Gram Panchayat under the Jolaibari RD Block in Tripura. The initiative is expected to create sustainable livelihood opportunities, particularly for women-led self-help groups (SHGs), while strengthening the local rural economy.
The project has been made possible through financial support from the discretionary fund of Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, who contributed Rs 1 lakh toward the initiative. In addition, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), operating under the RD Department, invested Rs 3.5 lakh to bring the project to fruition.
Named the “Maa Durga Krishi PG Duckling Production (Hatchery) Unit,” the facility has been developed under the technical guidance of TRLM and with active support from the Jolaibari RD Block administration. The Block Development Officer, Nababrata Dutta, played a key role in coordinating efforts to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
A notable highlight of the initiative is the active participation of women’s self-help groups under the Muhuripur Cluster Level Federation (CLF). These groups have been instrumental in conceptualizing and operationalizing the hatchery, marking a strong step forward in women-led rural entrepreneurship. The hatchery will act as a steady and reliable source of ducklings for SHG members and PG Didis, enabling them to expand duck rearing activities and secure a consistent income stream.
Officials have described the project as a model of sustainable rural development. By focusing on duck rearing—a traditional and viable livelihood option in the region—the hatchery is expected to generate employment, enhance income levels, and improve economic resilience among rural households.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent local leaders, including Tapas Dutta, along with the head and deputy head of West Pilak Gram Panchayat and other dignitaries. Their presence underscored the importance of the initiative in driving grassroots development.
Experts believe that such targeted interventions can significantly contribute to the broader goal of rural transformation. By integrating government support with community participation, the hatchery unit sets a strong example of how localized projects can create long-term socio-economic impact.

With the launch of this hatchery unit, new avenues are expected to open in the duck-rearing sector across the region. The initiative not only promotes entrepreneurship but also reinforces the foundation of a self-sustaining rural economy in Tripura. As similar projects gain momentum, the state is poised to witness a steady rise in income generation, employment opportunities, and women’s empowerment at the grassroots level.
