From Neglect to Development: 55.62 KM of Roads Built in Tripura’s Tilthai Under BJP. Tripura’s tribal Tilthai region sees 101 all-weather roads under BJP governance, marking a shift from years of Communist-era infrastructure neglect.
Former Tripura Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, Biplab Kumar Deb, has drawn attention to a significant breakthrough in rural infrastructure development in the state, particularly in long-neglected tribal-dominated regions. Taking to social media, Deb highlighted the example of Tilthai, a remote area located in North Tripura’s Jubarajnagar RD Block, as a powerful symbol of the shift from what he described as decades of “Communist misrule” to a new era of “BJP-led good governance.”
Decades of Deprivation Under Left Rule

In his post, Deb recalled the dire conditions that existed in tribal areas like Tilthai prior to 2018. He painted a stark picture of how residents, including school children, farmers, and the elderly, were forced to brave unsafe mud paths and makeshift bamboo bridges just to access essential services. “For decades, the tribal people of Tilthai were systematically deprived of basic infrastructure,” he wrote. “Forget about improved living standards—even their most fundamental needs were overlooked. All of it was sacrificed at the altar of narrow political interests.”
Deb accused the previous CPI(M)-led Left Front government of treating the tribal population as little more than a vote bank. Despite forming a significant part of the state’s demography and geographical spread, he argued, tribal regions were kept underdeveloped to maintain political control rather than empowered through inclusive development.
Landmark Development in Tilthai
Deb marked February 11, 2022, as a watershed moment in the region’s developmental journey. On that day, 101 paved block roads—covering a total of 55.62 kilometers—were inaugurated in Tilthai for the first time. The roads, described as all-weather and fully motorable, now connect 107 Gram Panchayats and ADC village committees, impacting the daily lives of thousands of rural and tribal families.
“This is not just road construction; it is social transformation,” Deb said. “From carrying patients in makeshift stretchers to walking miles for water, the people here have endured unthinkable hardships. Today, thanks to the BJP government’s focused development agenda, they can reach schools, hospitals, and markets without risking their lives.”
BJP’s Focus on Rural and Tribal Empowerment
Deb credited the turnaround to the BJP-led administration that assumed power in Tripura in 2018, emphasizing the party’s commitment to decentralization, last-mile connectivity, and rural empowerment. He acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the central government’s active support in bridging the rural-urban development gap.
“Rural road infrastructure has been one of the cornerstones of our vision for Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas,” Deb stated, referencing the BJP’s guiding philosophy of inclusive development. “These roads are opening up new avenues for employment, education, and healthcare in areas that had been written off for generations.”
Impact on ADC Areas
The newly built roads are particularly significant in the context of the Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas, where infrastructural backwardness has often translated into social and economic isolation. Improved road connectivity is already beginning to show positive ripple effects on agriculture, small trade, access to welfare schemes, and the integration of remote villages into the broader state economy.
Observers note that the project in Tilthai is emblematic of a broader policy shift aimed at integrating tribal regions into the mainstream through sustained investment in infrastructure and governance.
Conclusion
In spotlighting the transformation of Tilthai, Biplab Deb has not only reiterated the BJP’s developmental narrative but also challenged the legacy of the past. His remarks come at a time when infrastructure development and tribal welfare remain key political issues in Tripura. As the state continues its journey of progress, the roads of Tilthai stand as a testament to how targeted governance can transform the landscape—both physically and socially.
