Even as four persons died during the last 24 hours and positivity rate in AMC reached 23.15 per cent the state government decided to modify and tighten some of the restrictions that had already been imposed in the state.

ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday announced that the restrictions including Night Curfew would be extended further while all shopping malls, cinema halls, multiplex, parks, picnic spots, exhibitions and fairs would be closed . The  notification on the new restrictions would be issued on Wednesday.

He said, now the Covid Night Curfew would come into force from 8 pm (instead of 9 pm) to 5 pm of the next morning with effect from January 20. All religious programmes including kirtans have to be completed by January 23, he said.

Replying to a query, he said, “a genome sequencing machine from Germany is on the way to Tripura. It is expected that the machine will reach the state by February next.”

In the meantime, four persons died of Covid and 1385 fresh positive cases were detected in Tripura during the past 24 hours.

The positivity rate in AMC reached 23.15 percent on Monday. Expressing his concern over the alarming rise in Covid cases in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas, the ICA minister appealed to all to maintain the Covid guidelines properly.

The Covid positivity rate is highest in West Tripura district- 14.21 percent followed by Sepahijala 9.55 percent, Khowai 13.04 percent, Gomati 10.77 percent, South Tripura 8.36 percent, Dhalai 8.01 percent, Unakoti 13.81 percent and North Tripura 4.14 percent.

“The state registered 14 deaths due to Covid in the past one week. The number of active cases in the state at present is 6491. Among them, 6159 patients are under home isolation,” Chowdhury said, while appealing to the people to properly maintain Covid appropriate behaviour.

He said, the attendance of the employees in all government offices would be restricted to 50 percent in the AMC and the joint secretaries and the officers in upper level have to attend office.
