In a recent political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled former MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik for a period of six years, citing his alleged involvement in ‘anti-party’ activities. Bhowmik, who was also an invited member of the State Committee, faced expulsion for violating party principles, values, and ideologies.

The decision followed Bhowmik’s visit to the Pradesh Congress headquarters in the capital city, during which he openly criticized the ruling BJP, accusing it of lacking discipline. In a press release issued by the party, Bhowmik was accused of engaging in activities detrimental to the party’s interests.

During his visit to the Congress headquarters, Bhowmik expressed dissatisfaction with the BJP’s internal discipline, stating that common people had lost faith in the party. He further criticized both former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and incumbent Chief Minister Manik Saha for their alleged incapability in running the government smoothly.

A former member of the Congress and Trinamool Congress, Bhowmik had joined the BJP and won the 2018 assembly elections from Belonia. However, in the last assembly election, he was not given the party nomination, leading to his discontent. Bhowmik’s recent statements and actions indicate his intention to join the Congress in the coming days.

This development underscores the ongoing political dynamics and shifts within the state
