College of Agriculture, Tripura (CAT) in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh organized a one day Mega Seed Distribution Programme under the project ‘Promotional Activities of Vegetables for NEH Component’ and ‘Promotional Activities of Vegetables for Schedule Caste Sub Plan’.
The workshop was inaugurated by Pranajit Singha Roy, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister, MLA Khrishnadhan Das and Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU (I), Lembucherra.
The welcome speech was addressed by Dr. T.K. Maity, Principal, College of Agriculture, Tripura and the programme was conducted in hybrid mode where Dr. Jagdish Singh, Director; Dr. Nagendra Rai, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer and Dr. Rakesh Kumar Dubey, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer NEH Component from ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi, UP joined through digital platforms and delivered their video speeches.
Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare minister in his speech, has given more emphasis on doubling Farmers Income, and aware famers about different upcoming state and central schemes as well as vision of government for the next 25 years.
Dr Tridip Bhattacharjee (Principal Investigator), Dr. Niladri Paul,Dr. Utpal Giri, Dr. DP Awasthi, Dr Saurav Das, Dr Dipak Sinha, Dr BC Thangjam, Dr. Th. Ireneaus K.S. and Prof. DebashishSen, were contributed their valuable efforts for successful completion of the programme.
In this programme, Joint Director (I/c), ICAR for NEH Region, Tripura Centre; SDM, Mohanpur; Director (I/c), T-SAMETI; Superintendent of Agriculture, Mohanpur;Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Khowai; other Faculty members of the College and many local leaders were also present.
The speakers were highlighted about the importance of agriculture and also about the way forward towards doubling farmer’s income.The programme was attended by 90 experienced male and female young progressive farmers of the Tripurafrom Gandchara block under Dhalai, Kabiguru and Ujjyanta FPO, Bamutia of West Tripura and Nabin and Prabin Farmer’s Club of Khowai district. In this programme each farmer received one sprayer and FPOs have received two power tillers, and two Farmer’s Club have been awarded with two garden tillers. After receiving the inputs and machinery, farmers were very happy as it will reduce their cost of cultivation towards doubling their income.
