CPM leader and former MLA Pabitra Kar was once again questioned by the Crime Branch of Tripura Police on Monday. The Crime Branch has been probing into the alleged Benami property worth Rs 28 crore of the CPM leader.

Kar later claimed that the he had inherited the Khayerpur properties while the his Ramnagar house he got from his father-in-law. He alleged that the case was politically motivated and despite lengthy raids and questioning for the last two years the Crime Branch did not find anything.

” Why Police are not submitting charge sheet”, he asked.

His lawyer Bhaskar Deb who accompanied Kar during the interrogation also alleged that the case was filed to take political revenge. Justifying his claim, advocate Deb further said Kar is one of the frontline leaders of CPM and is carrying out the party activities. The case was lodged to create pressure on him.

Training guns at the incumbent government, Kar held the government responsible for the deteriorating health condition of deputy leader of the Opposition Badal Chowdhury. Kar alleged Badal Chowdhury has become bedridden due to sustained harassment and torture by the Police.

“After BJP assumed power, CPM leaders and activists were targeted. While cases were filed against the leaders and supporters, as many as 21 CPM activists were murdered”, he alleged.

He, however, reiterated that such revengeful initiatives will not succeed in taming the spirit of CPM leaders and supporters and they will continue to raise voices.
