Damcherra police station apprehended two alleged drug dealers with a cache of Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 6 crore from the border area between Tripura and Mizoram.
The arrested individuals were identified as Maman Hossain (34), a resident of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala District, and Krishna Chandra Singh (35) from Ranirbazar in West District.
The operation unfolded during the early hours of Thursday when Officer-in-Charge Sanjay Majumdar, accompanied by his team, conducted a search on a vehicle bearing registration number TR01B-0314. The search led to the discovery of 60,000 Yaba tablets cleverly concealed in six bundles.
The Superintendent of Police for North Tripura district, Bhanupada Chakraborty, estimated the value of the confiscated narcotics at an astounding Rs 6 crore.
According to Chakraborty, the vehicle, originating from Mizoram, drew suspicion, prompting the police to act swiftly on the intelligence received. The ensuing interception led to the apprehension of the two suspects.
Following their arrest, the accused were promptly presented before the Dharmanagar district court on Thursday.
In a separate development, the Dharmanagar Railway Division Demand and Development Committee reiterated its plea for the establishment of a railway division and a railway recruitment board office in Dharmanagar, along with the expansion of railway infrastructure.
Committee President Kandarp Bhattacharjee emphasized the long-standing demand for a railway division in Dharmanagar, which was part of the BJP’s electoral manifesto in 2013.
