Dr Manik Saha : Zero Tolerance on Illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has once again reiterated the state government’s firm stance against illegal infiltration across the international borders shared with Bangladesh and Myanmar. Addressing the media on Wednesday, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, declared unequivocally that under no circumstances would the state allow undocumented immigrants from either country to enter Indian territory.

Dr. Saha made this statement while speaking at a public event organized at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala, where he distributed offer letters to newly appointed Inspectors of the Food Department. During his interaction with reporters, he emphasized that if any illegal infiltrators from across the border manage to enter Indian soil, particularly into Tripura, they would be identified and pushed back strictly in accordance with existing legal provisions.
“We are very clear and firm on this matter. No Bangladeshi or Rohingya infiltrator will be allowed to enter Tripura or any other part of India. If anyone does manage to infiltrate, they will be pushed back as per the legal framework,” he stated.

The Chief Minister further informed that the Border Security Force (BSF), along with Tripura Police and other security agencies operating in the second and third tiers of border defense, are maintaining the highest level of vigilance to prevent any kind of unauthorized cross-border movement. Senior officers from BSF and state police are working in close coordination, and routine surveillance operations are being intensified to monitor border areas.
The state government has been consistently working towards providing employment opportunities, and as a result, 19,262 people, including those under the ‘Die-in-Harness’ scheme, have been given regular jobs through a completely transparent recruitment process.

This strong statement from the Tripura CM follows a recent directive issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which instructed all states and union territories to begin a thorough verification process of suspected illegal immigrants who claim Indian citizenship. The MHA has given states a 30-day deadline to complete the verification process and take deportation measures against individuals found to be ineligible under statutory provisions.
Tripura, with an 856-kilometer-long international border with Bangladesh, is uniquely positioned and vulnerable due to its geographical location. The state is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, which has historically made it a hotspot for both legal and illegal border crossings. While the state shares no direct border with Myanmar, concerns about Rohingya movement through neighboring states and porous routes have also been a part of the larger security discourse.
The Chief Minister highlighted that in a recent high-level meeting with senior BSF, police, and intelligence officials, he had issued directives to ensure close coordination among all security agencies. The aim is to respond swiftly to any developments related to border infiltration or security threats, especially in the context of the ongoing regional tensions.
“We are functioning under the guidance of the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are all deeply involved in monitoring the evolving situation. Tripura remains calm and secure, and people should not panic,” said Dr. Saha.
Security forces have been placed on high alert not just due to concerns of illegal immigration but also in light of broader national security concerns, including recent incidents of terrorism and ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. A senior BSF official posted in the state confirmed that the international border is being closely watched, with troops having intensified patrolling and surveillance operations.
“Since unrest escalated in neighboring countries last year, and more recently after the Pahalgam terror attack, we have enhanced our vigilance manifold. Senior BSF officials are constantly visiting sensitive border points and maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of the situation,” the official added.
Dr. Saha’s firm statement is being seen as both a warning to potential infiltrators and a reassurance to the people of Tripura that the government remains proactive and committed to maintaining the integrity of India’s borders and ensuring internal security.
