Dhalai district-level youth festival was held at the premises of Durga Chowmuhni RD Blockoffice in Kamalpur on December 27. The festival was formally inaugurated by the Chairman of Durga Chowmuhni RD Block Sampa Das whereas the programme was presided over by Sahakari Sabhadhipati of Dhalai Zila Parishad Anadi Sarkar. Other dignitaries present in the occasion were Kamalpur SDM Abhijit Chakraborty, BDO of Durga Chowmuhni RD Block Amaresh Barman, and social worker Santosh Das.
The dignitaries in the programme discussed about the role of youths in the society and the problems they are facing today such as addiction etc., which is also a reason because of which the traditional music and folk culture is almost obsolete. The youth festival is celebrated every year to revive the folk culture and act as a source of inspiration and encourage youth to nurture their skills and talents.
The youth festival was organised as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the Youth Affairs and Sports department, Dhalai district in association with Dhalai Zila Parishad, Durga Chowmuhni RD Block and Panchayat Samiti. Young participants from different areas of Dhalai district like Chawmanu and Manu RD block under Longtharai Valley, Kamalpur Nagar Panchayat etc., took part in the festival. The programme was followed by cultural performances by local artistes. Each participant was given a certificate of participation and the best team qualified for the state level festival at Agartala. Welcome speech was delivered by sub-divisional sports officer, Kamalpur YAS office Dibakar Debnath.
