Opposition CPM has organized a mega rally on Friday in its attempt to kick start the election campaign for the 2023 polls. The rally to be organized at Vivekananda Ground in the city heart is expected to witness a mammoth gathering as the CPM activated its all party organs across the state and asked them to join. The rally will be addressed by among others CPM all India secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo member and opposition leader Manik Sarkar.

Former Left Front minister and party’s senior leader Pabitra Kar said in some places party supporters who want to join the rally are being restricted by ruling party workers and hurdles are being created so that they cannot reach Agartala.

He said, in view of the expected massive gathering the CPM volunteers are already given specific tasks and instructions to control the crowd in a disciplined way.

CPM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said, the rally will dwell on the failures of the BJP government both in state and also in the centre. The speakers will expose as to how the ruling party and its leaders have been befooling the common people by false promises or misinterpreted data. The rally will focus on the ensuing assembly elections of the state.

The CPM election meeting is being held exactly six days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit which is also scheduled to mark the beginning of the BJP’s poll campaign in the state.

In the meantime, massive security arrangements were made by the police and security staff. As the city roads are expected to be clogged with crowd traffic police was also asked to take special measures to maintain smooth vehicular movements with nakabandi in required places.
