Before the assembly elections the 10,323 terminated teachers’ issue is taking turn and twists.

While some of the terminated teachers began their fast-unto-death sit-in protest in Orient Chowmani, TIPRA Motha chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarman went to New Delhi to engage Congress leader Kapil Sibal as the lawyer to plead in the Supreme Court for the teachers’ reappointment. Interestingly it was the same Kapil Sibal, an eminent lawyer , who had once on July 28, 2020 categorically said about the 20, 232 teachers, “ the entire issue has already been decided . So you cannot reopen the judgment”. When he was asked whether the teachers could move the court again, Sibal said ‘Of course not”. He was giving a telephonic interview with a local TV channel on that day about the matter.

Pradyot Kishore said, “Met the renowned Lawyer Kapil Sibal along with the representative of the 10,323 affected teachers. He will be representing us and is confident of getting the teachers justice”.

Pradyot further added, “Commitment is commitment and cannot be compromised”.

In the meantime, the teachers who began the fast un to death sit in agitation, “We have waited for a long time for the state government to take action to fulfil its promise made to us of restoration of our services. Unfortunately, nothing was forthcoming. Our meetings with the ministers and their assurances did not yield any results”.

“Now were forced to go for the fast unto death agitation”.

The agitating teachers also seemed alive to the politics that were being played with their misfortune as one said, “the political parties are trying to make politics out of our situation. But our families are going through severe hardships. Already 142 among us have died. And there seems to be no respite “.
