In a significant departure from its earlier stand CPM was now keen to join hands with TIPRA Motha. The political compulsions made the Marxists openly toe the Congress line and announce that for a common opposition platform TIPRA Motha- which was demanding Greater Tipraland – was also welcome in the anti-BJP platform.
Left Front Convener Narayan Kar on Wednesday said, the fdemand of the hour is a united fight against the BJP and for that all opposition parties needed to come under one umbrella.
“It is required so that the Opposition votes do not get divided and BJP gets the mileage”, he felt and added that even a party like TIPRA Motha was welcome in the bid to oust the BJP from power and restore democracy in Tripura.
“Let us come forward and talk. I do not at this moment see the colours of the opposition parties– TIPRA Motha or Congress. It is the high time that all should join hands”, Kar said.
The Left Front convenor maintained that there was no law and order in the state and there was a sustained onslaught on the opposition workers, supporters and leaders by the ruling party. He also took a dig at the police for remaining a mere spectator as the attacks continued on the opposition.
“The situation seriously claustrophobic and all are asking for a way out. Only a united front of the opposition can provide it to the people of the state and free them from the fascist rule of the BJP”, he said.
