Opposition CPM which, has been fighting hard to regain its base in Tripura so as to garner enough strength to put up a fight against the BJP in the assembly elections, is going to hold its two-day state conference from February 25.

The state committee meet will have to discuss various aspects of the party to rejuvenate it and to once again get strong foothold. The Marxists are already facing worst ever crisis at present and the problems deepened further with the death of party ideologue Bijan Dhar and veteran Gautam Das. Badal Chowdhury, another top level leader and organizer, is also not keeping well – though he is trying hard. Only party Secretary Jitendra Choudhury and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar accompanied by former minister Pabitra Kar are somehow running the show and trying hard to regain the lost strength. They are always on the move. But the problem arises at the absence of young leaders who should be the leading from the front. The veterans largely succeeded to arrest the fast speed erosion of the base but could not make much headway to bring back what is already lost in the hills and in the plains under the saffron surge.

It at this juncture the CPM will have to discuss poll strategy also and one important point being the alliance with other party.

As the party is readying up to hold a public rally at the Astabal Maidan on Thursday in which the party’s general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Politburo leader Prakash Karat and other leaders will address the supporters followed by a two-day State level Conference, all eyes are focused on the strategies of the leaders relating to organizational rejuvenation, electoral alliance, attempt to gain youth supports and special drive to regain grounds in the tribal-dominated areas.

While speaking to the media, Party’s state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said during the party’s two-day-long state conference which will begin from February 25 at Agartala Town Hall, a series of issues including the current political situation of the state shall be discussed so as to adopt the party’s strategy in the coming days and especially for the ensuing election.

Choudhury said, “This year as the state conference of the party is being held after three years and the main slogan of the party’s state conference shall be restoring law and order situation and peace in the state.”

Choudhury hammered the government over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and alleged, “Since the BJP has formed government in the year 2018, the situation in the state has worsened and people are being deprived at large. Even the former leaders of the BJP are being attacked.”

“From the platform of our 23rd state conference, we will appeal for a united fight against the misrule of the BJP government in Tripura,” adding to this Choudhury said, “At least 320 party representatives from the state and abroad are to take part in the state conference starting from February 24.”

He, however, did not elaborate on what the party meant by the united fight.
